essential tip for studio cosmetic shoot.

On 28th, January, 2018, I had a cosmetic shoot for the class assignment.
And this is the photo which I come up with from 2 hours shooting.

ISO100, SS 1/125, F4.5, Nikon D5300, 85mm

What do you think?
Today I wan to introduce 2 equipments which you must have for cosmetic shoots,  and at the end I want to review my shoots.

First equipment I want to introduce is Lightmeter.

For the cosmetic shoot, Lighting is hugely important.
Company wants photographers to get most beautiful pictures and it has to represent the product it self.
And you will be wonder how do you get the right exposure?
Lightmeter can solve the problem.
Lightmeter is an instrument for measuring the intensity of light, used chiefly to show the correct exposure when taking a photograph.
SO before you start shooting, just get the right exposure first!
Here is the good Youtube video which shows you how to use it.

The second equipment is Colour Checker.
This one also really really important for cosmetic shoot.
Why?
Because company only wants the picture which has exact same colour with actual product. Otherwise consumer will complain about it, and before that company can't sell it.
So this is the equipment to get the right colour.
Before you start shooting, check the exposure with lightmeter, then put the colour check besides the subject, and take a shot.
So by doing this, you don't need to worry about exposure and colour.
How long does it take?
1 minutes!
So just do it please.

This is the diagram for this shoot.

My review
Before finish this blog, I want to leave my comment from the shoot. If I have cosmetic shoot gain, I will not shoot with F4.5.
I just followed the exposure which Lightmeter said, but F4.5 is not enough to get the sharpness entire product. It's good to stand out the subject by having a lot of BOKE, but for this kind of shoot, I need more sharpness.

So probably I will use F8 or F11 instead of F4.5 or F5.6, and set the main light power 2 to 3 tops higher.

And one more thing that I will do is, put the kicker light on the right side which I put just besides the left side of camera at the shooting, and get the light on the company's logo. Or move the main light a little bit left, and get the light on company logo.

Thank you for reading!
I will keep posting photography article every Wednesday!

How to shoot Studio Portraits

If I need to give some tips for other photographers or people who have no idea about how I shoot studio portraits, this is the way that I do. 1. Planning 1st tip in studio portraits is planning. I think a lot of beginners don't pay attention to this, or maybe some photographers don't need it. But Planning your shoot is critical. What do you want to shoot? What kind of look/style do you want? What kind of pictures do your clients want? How do you want to hit the light? If your client is ready for the shoot, and you suddenly start thinking how you want to hit the light or how you want them to pose, it's too late. In hat case, your client can tell you're not sure what you are doing, and I can tell that shoot will never goes well, and client will not call you again. So 1st thing that I always always do is communicate with the person you shoot before the actual shooting day. How? and What do I talk? Here is the thing that I do before the shoot. 1. send ...

Essential chip for studio shooting

On Sunday, January 21st, I had a shoot with Lillea Goian , she is a lady who I introduced in last blog. She is a 20 years old fashion designer, and one of the most notable young lady in Vancouver, I think. I met her on the street about 5or 6month a go and since then I wanted to have a shoot with her.  And these are the pictures we got.  Today I want to talk about 2 chip which I always do or think when I have a photoshoot. 1. tell your models/clients what you want to get I think this is really important. If you don't have any ideas for the shooting, like about their cloth, color, Background color, expressions and what is your plan for the shoot..etc, you will never get satisfied picture. I think as a photographer, I should be very clear about what I want to get in the shoot before I actually start shooting.  And tell/explain the models what I want to get until they are also able to imagine what I imagine.  so always helpful to get exam...

My passion for photography

(5 minutes to read.) Model: Husnu Hello everyone, I have a question to the photographers out there. If someone ask you "What is your type of photography that you passionate about?", what is your answer look like? Can you answer it immediately? or are you still not sure what you want to do? Today's blog is about my passion for photography.  Before we go deeper, let me answer that question first. Model: Amber Personally, I can answer that question by describing March 6th versions of my idea. But if you ask me same question tomorrow, it will be not same in my mind. Maybe it will be sounds like same, but my inside is different. It will be a little bit more detailed.  Why? Because my mind is changed all the time, and I move forward every single day. I learn from small challenges, all the conversations and emails, all the lessons teacher gave, and I spend time for check the details whether I like or not. So my mind changes little by litt...
